Taizhou welcomes 7.54 million tourists during Spring Festival holiday

During the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, Taizhou in Jiangsu province hosted over 800 cultural and tourism events, attracting 7.54 million visitors, a 25.3 percent increase from last year. Tourism revenue reached 5.28 billion yuan ($724.41 million), up 21.7 percent, setting a new record in the city.

From the fourth to the sixth day of the Chinese New Year, an intangible cultural heritage event took place at the Ancient Salt Canal Square, captivating nearly 20,000 participants. Traditional opera performances, including Peking Opera and Huaiju Opera, enthralled audiences, while beautiful ICH crafts like Xinghua silverware, Jiangyan dough figurines, and Gaogang tiger-head shoes were displayed. Local delicacies, such as crab roe soup dumplings and small wontons, added to the festive atmosphere.


ICH performances also took place at the Sea View Tower Scenic Area and popular shopping centers like Wanda Plaza and Fun World, drawing large crowds to witness traditional skills like stone lock balancing and diabolo tricks.

In Jingjiang, folk parades and markets featured dragon and lion dances, stilt walking, and traditional boat performances, while handicrafts like clay figurines, sugar paintings, and bamboo weaving showcased local artistry. In Shagou Ancient Town, Xinghua, fishermen demonstrated ancient fishing techniques with shrimp cages, nets, and bamboo traps, offering visitors a glimpse into their heritage.


Throughout the city, lantern festivals, fireworks displays, and molten iron firework shows lit up the night sky, creating a magical atmosphere. Meanwhile, public performances spread festive cheer across shopping malls, plazas, and streets.
