On January 16, 2002, the 37th Meeting of the 1st Standing Committee of the Taizhou Municipal People’s Congress deliberated and passed the decision of confirming maidenhair tree as Taizhou’s city tree and plum blossom as its city flower.

City Flower of Taizhou – Plum Blossom

Plum blossom is native to China and blooms every February. The flower is dignified and quiet, braves frost against snow, blooms alone in severe cold, and is regarded as the symbol of having a sharp sense of integrity.

City Tree of Taizhou – Maidenhair Tree

Maidenhair tree, or gingko tree, was known as taxillus tree or gongsun tree in old times. It is one the extremely precious tree species in the world and also the only variety of anciently ginkgopsidas existing in the globe, so botanists regard it as living fossil in the plant kingdom. Plus cedar, araucaria and pseudolarix, the 4 are considered as top 4 garden trees in the world.
