Rutai Canal connection project completed
updated on :2019-08-08 08:55

In August last year, with the support of Jiangsu province, Taizhou city and Nantong city, the Rutai Canal connection project was officially implemented. With an investment of more than 80 million yuan, the project connected river course of 674 meters, built a new control gate, new buttress retaining wall and cantilever small retaining wall in the upper and lower reaches of the control gate, as well as an 8-meter wide traffic bridge, connecting S334 provincial highway.

Rutai Canal connects the Yangtze River in the west and the Yellow Sea in the east. It is a key regional river that runs through Nantong and Taixing, with a total length of 155 kilometers. However, due to historical reasons, about 400 meters were not completed. On July 16 this year, at the junction of Taixing Fenjie town and Nantong Rugao Banjing town, the control gate slowly rose and water flowed towards the Yellow Sea after half a century.

After the completion of the project, Taixing water system will be connected with Rugao water system to promote the flow of water and improve the water ecological environment. It will also  greatly improve the shipping of Rutai Canal, so that the navigation distance between Taixing and Rudong can be shortened by more than 100 kilometers.
