Taizhou, located along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, is one of the 27 central cities defined in the Outline of Integrated Development Plan in the Yangtze River Delta Region. Taizhou is at the intersection of the national-level riverside channel and the provincial-level north-south central axis channel. It is a hub city for cross-river development in Jiangsu Province.

Beijing-Shanghai Expressway, Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway, Qidong-Yangzhou Expressway, Yancheng-Jingjiang Expressway and Funing-Liyang Expressway run throughout Taizhou. Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge and Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge connected the north and the south regions of Yangtze River. Changzhou-Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge and Jiangyin Second River Crossing Channel will be completed before 2025.
