Overview: Founded in 1878, Kotka, Finland is a seaport city in southeastern part of Finland and the second largest city in Kymijoki County at the estuary of the Kymijoki River. Covering an area of 750 square kilometers, Kotka has a population of about 55,000. It is 130 kilometers away from the capital Helsinki in the west and 290 kilometers away from St. Petersburg in the east. It is an important water and land transportation line. Kotka is famous for its port, industry and nautical festival. It is also a center of education and culture. Kotka has important pillar industries such as machinery manufacturing, renewable energy, shipbuilding and wood processing. Its logistics, commerce and service industries are also booming. At the same time, it has a solid educational foundation, with 3 colleges and universities and more than 20 comprehensive schools as well as technical secondary schools and vocational schools.
