The 13th China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Biomedicine kicked off in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, on Nov 19. The event attracted over 30,000 companies nationwide, with 204 advancing to the national competition.
In his opening address, He Nianchu, deputy director of the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, emphasized that the biopharmaceutical industry is one of the most promising and critical sectors of the 21st century. He noted that the Yangtze River Delta region, home to 36 national high-tech zones, accounts for over half of the country's biopharmaceutical industry output.
He urged the city of Taizhou, a leading hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing, to further integrate innovation, funding, and talent, accelerating the industry's transformation to high-quality development.
Jiang Dongdong, Party secretary of Taizhou, highlighted that the city has been focusing on a comprehensive approach, working across the entire healthcare sector, including medicine, medical devices, nutrition, fitness, and health tourism. Taizhou, he affirmed, would continue to drive innovation and establish itself as China's top pharmaceutical city.
Enterprises in Taizhou's China Medical City have consistently excelled in national and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. Notably, the first competition saw the success of Bioperfectus, which went public and has since become a prominent player in China's diagnostic reagent market.
As the competition unfolds, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors are keen to witness the next wave of breakthroughs in the biopharmaceutical field.
